Speed Bump Solution (This Could Really Work)

I checked with Tom and he approved this speed bump alternative. Not sure if it will get through the city approval process, however.

Consulting Firm Search Underway

In June, the City of Carlsbad approved a portion of the necessary funding for the traffic calming project, enough to begin the design phase.

With that in place, the search process is now underway to find a consulting firm who will assist the City in working with the Donna Drive and Basswood Neighbors.

Jim Murray, the Carlsbad City traffic engineer assigned to our project, explained recently that soon we will need to create a neighborhood design committee, neighbors who represent the entire span of Donna and Basswood.

UPDATE (Nov. 17, 2008) The consulting firm has submitted a second proposal and there is a scope and fee agreement yet to be agreed upon with the city. Hopefully the details will be worked out and we can soon meet with the consulting firm as a neighborhood. Updates will be forwarded to you as soon as we receive them.

This committee will work directly with the consulting firm and be charged with evaluating the designs, reporting to their immediate neighbors, and voting on final plans.

Once the traffic calming consulting firm is hired our neighborhood committee will begin the design and evaluation process. We will keep you posted about this!

Welcome! The Donna Drive Traffic Calming "blog" is your neighborhood news source for information regarding the Donna Drive Traffic Calming project. With so many of us having access to the Internet these days we thought it would be an effective and affordable method of communication.

Initially, Tom and I will be providing regular updates in this blog that will cover all aspects of the traffic calming project. You'll be informed about the progress between the City, the traffic calming consulting firm, and our neighborhood.

As many of you remember back in June 2008 the City of Carlsbad voted to grant funds for the initial design phase for the project to officially get underway. Currently, our liaison with the City, Jim Murry, reports that he is undergoing a search to find a suitable consulting firm who will work with the City and the neighborhood to complete the design phase.

Once this step is completed, the final street design will be submitted to the City for approval. Of course, we'll need to rally together and make sure it passes, plus make sure it is approved as a budgeted line item.

But, that is down the road.

For now, leave your comments, ask questions, and let us know what you think. Ultimately, we look forward to a successful reduction in driver speeds on Donna and Basswood Drives.
